Multidynamic Relational Therapy
Multidynamic Relational Therapy (MRT)
is a theoretical model that centers the lived experiences of same sex couples of color and standardizes the flexibility and liberation of their relationship as the norm of healthy intimate relationships.
MRT Theoretical Tenets:
-
Problems in intimate relationships often are hampered by a lack of flexibility between partners.
-
Rules and roles based on gender/gender scripts create rigidity, lack of creative solutions and oppressive stances.
-
Adhering to rigid templates impact intimacy, closeness, affection and eventually expressiveness.
-
Power in relationships deserve to be shared and evaluated consistently.
-
Radical emancipation is a process of embodying liberation in oneself and casting off the demands of societal expectations in relationships.
