Course Description

The Song of Songs is the one book of the canon that is unashamedly erotic, and it is the book the church has been quietest about. That silence has a cost, and clinicians absorb it. Clients arrive carrying a theology that either forbids the body or refuses to discuss it, and the confusion lands in the therapy room instead of the sanctuary.


This 90 minute live online workshop reads the Song of Songs in its Hebrew and puts it to clinical work. Participants examine the words the English translations soften: teshuqah, the rare term for desire that appears in Genesis under domination and returns in Song 7:10 as mutual and unruled; gan na'ul, the enclosed garden that traditional readings equate with virginity and whose Hebrew actually describes a body that is self-possessed and opens only by invitation; shalhevetyah, the book's most intense word, a blazing flame that may…
