Neuroaffirming Supervision

Course Description

Between 15 and 20 percent of people worldwide are neurodivergent (Doyle, 2020). United States counseling literature contains one peer reviewed article on the neurodiversity paradigm, and the ACA Code of Ethics contains zero mentions of neurodiversity (Goodman Scott et al., 2026). Supervisors are making career defining judgments about neurodivergent supervisees with almost no professional guidance, and those judgments travel directly into the consulting room. A supervisee who is being evaluated on conformity rather than competence is a supervisee whose clinical attention is divided, and clients absorb the cost.

This workshop gives supervisors, faculty and training directors a systemic framework that holds three things at once: the supervisor's own nervous system, the supervisory relationship, and the institution that sets the terms for both.
