MRT Theoretical Tenets:

  • Problems in intimate relationships often are hampered by a lack of flexibility between partners.

  • Rules and roles based on gender/gender scripts create rigidity, lack of creative solutions and oppressive stances.

  • Adhering to rigid templates impact intimacy, closeness, affection and eventually expressiveness.

  • Power in relationships deserve to be shared and evaluated consistently.

  • Radical emancipation is a process of embodying liberation in oneself and casting off the demands of societal expectations in relationships.

Multidynamic Relational Therapy is a theoretical model that centers the lived experiences of same sex couples of color and standardizes the flexibility and liberation of their relationship as the norm of healthy intimate relationships.
